From March 12 to April 6, 2024, the Daniel Maghen Gallery is proud to dedicate an exhibition to two masters of realism, Griffo for the Giacomo C. series and Bernard Vrancken for the album Les Enfants du ciel.
Two invitations to travel
Head to 18th-century Venice with the superb original pages from Giacomo C. by Griffo, a series imagined by Jean Dufaux. From the Doge's Palace to the splendid residences of the Grand Canal, Griffo turns the city's iconic locations into the setting for the incredible adventures of Giacomo C., a character reminiscent of the legendary Casanova. The artist brilliantly depicts the splendors of Venice, as well as its deliciously scandalous atmosphere. Visitors will admire his realistic settings, which so aptly evoke the city's unique atmosphere, and his exceptional mastery of watercolor. On display will be a selection of original pages from the series, alongside covers and artworks created especially for the occasion, as well as a few rare black-and-white pages from Monsieur Noir and S.O.S. bonheur.
The exhibition also features the original wash drawings created by Bernard Vrancken for his album Les Enfants du ciel. Between adventure story and historical epic, the comic artist of I.R.$. gives his best and reinvents himself in this superb one-shot. From Europe to Egypt, on the eve of World War II, small and big history meet. In addition to the spectacular format of his pages, Vrancken demonstrates a formidable mastery of light with breathtaking full-page artworks. We admire his spectacular settings and landscapes, as well as the elegance of his ultra-realistic characters. His remarkable artwork makes Les Enfants du ciel one of his most beautiful albums. For the exhibition, Vrancken has created large-format wash illustrations and is also presenting a selection of pages from I.R.$ and H.ell.
