From August 22 to September 20, the Daniel Maghen Gallery will exhibit the artworks of two talented comic artists, Josep HOMS for the SHI series, and Daria SCHMITT for her new album La Tête de mort venue de Suède (The Skull from Sweden).

Two artists whose style is steeped in fantasy

Comic artist and colorist Josep Homs will be honored with a retrospective of his iconic series SHI.

A gifted illustrator, Josep Homs has made his mark on Franco-Belgian comics with his series SHI (published by Dargaud), conceived by Zidrou and masterfully staged, drawn, and colored by the Catalan artist.

With more than 80 artworks—original plates, covers, and unpublished illustrations—the exhibition offers a total immersion in this adventure story tinged with eroticism, which transports us to 19th-century England during the Victorian era. The pages from the last three SHI albums will be displayed for the first time, along with artworks from Millénium, Secrets - L'Angélus and Le Diable et Coral.

This is a unique opportunity to admire the elegant and detailed style of this virtuoso comic artist, as well as his talent as a painter.

With La Tête de mort venue de Suède (The Skull from Sweden), Daria Schmitt has created another masterful black-and-white album.

The exhibition will also showcase the artwork of the brilliant Daria Schmitt. After Ornithomaniacs and Le Bestiaire du Crépuscule, the author continues her literary and philosophical exploration with La Tête de mort venue de Suède (published by Aire Libre), based on the story of René Descartes. She embarks on a spiritual journey where she takes us on a trail following the thinker's remains, through the major dates in French history.

Daria Schmitt's art and her mastery of black and white are spot on. Her dense and detailed style shines throughout the album, illustrated in masterful sequences of great graphic power. A brilliant, elegant, and perfectly accomplished work, this album demonstrates the artist's great skill and mastery, and marks a turning point in Daria Schmitt's artwork.

Around fifty original pages from the album will be on display in the exhibition, alongside superb illustrations from Alice in Wonderland, pages from Bestiaire du Crépuscule, Ornithomaniacs and a story for Métal Hurlant. A series of previously unseen illustrations created especially for the occasion will also be on display, including a grandiose piece created using Indian ink and gold leaf.

It's in the news!

Masters of the Line Make Their Return to the Daniel Maghen Gallery

The Galerie Maghen in Paris is unrivalled when it comes to unearthing contemporary masters of the line. By bringing together the Spanish artist Josep Homs (Shi, Le Diable & Coral… published by Dargaud) and Daria Schmitt (La Tête de mort venue de Suède, published by Dupuis Aire Libre), the gallery contrasts two radically different approaches to line art, yet both share one common trait: virtuosity.
