The Daniel Maghen Gallery is proud to dedicate an exhibition to two talented artists on the occasion of the release of their respective new albums: Patrick Prugne for Pocahontas and Paul Salomone for Celle qui fit le bonheur des insectes (She Who Brought Happiness to Insects), from October 11 to November 5, 2022.

Patrick Prugne explores a new aspect of North American colonial history

This sixth exhibition dedicated to Patrick Prugne showcases his magnificent upcoming album Pocahontas (published by Daniel Maghen). After Canoë Bay, Frenchman, Pawnee, Iroquois, and Tomahawk, the accomplished author tackles a new chapter in the history of North American colonization: the arrival of the first English settlers in the 17th century and their conflict with the Powhatan Indians. This story, based on solid documentary research, unfolds in superb original watercolor pages and illustrations. A master of his craft, Patrick Prugne pays attention to every detail and constructs his images like true paintings, endowed with great graphic quality and a delicate color palette. The beautiful Pocahontas appears courageous and dignified as she plays a central role in the colonists' destiny. A magnificent historical and graphic journey that can be enjoyed on every page.

A first retrospective for Paul Salomone

Paul Salomone is the subject of his first-ever retrospective at the gallery. This will be an opportunity to showcase this artist's extraordinary talent and his skill in the art of eroticism! There will be a wide selection on display, allowing visitors to discover the different graphic facets of this artist whose drawings are so expressive and dynamic. Original black-and-white pages and detailed wash drawings from his first successful collaboration with Wilfrid Lupano, L'Homme qui n'aimait pas les armes à feu (The Man Who Didn't Like Guns, 4 volumes, published by Delcourt), will be on display. In a more orientalist style, the original direct color pages from his brand new album, written by Zidrou, will be on display: Celle qui fit le bonheur des insectes (published by Daniel Maghen). For this album, he opted for a bright color palette that works very well with this fantastical tale. In the erotic genre, visitors can admire the wash drawings from his solo album Des Plumes & Elle (published by Delcourt) as well as a series of pin-ups and sensual artworks inspired by L’Homme qui n’aimait pas les armes à feu.
