Galerie Daniel Maghen is proud to present an exhibition dedicated to two masters of the 9th Art: Victor Hubinon, the longtime illustrator of Barbe-Rouge, and Bernard Vrancken, to mark the release of the graphic novel Nouvelle France (published by DM), written by Stephen Desberg.

Victor Hubinon & Bernard Vrancken Exhibition

This very first exhibition and sale featuring works from Barbe-Rouge is a major event in the world of comic book collecting. Illustrated by Victor Hubinon and created by Jean-Michel Charlier in 1959 for the first issue of Pilote, Barbe-Rouge is one of the classic series of Franco-Belgian comics. Fifty original art panels from five albums in the series, previously held by the Charlier family, will be on display. This is an opportunity to admire Hubinon’s exceptional inking through striking maritime scenes and key panels featuring the series’ main characters: the bloodthirsty Barbe-Rouge, his son Captain Éric, Baba, Triple-Patte, and his loyal buccaneers. A true Proustian madeleine for lovers of pirate stories and fans of the adventures of the Demon of the Caribbean Artwork from Tiger Joe, the first collaboration between Charlier and Hubinon, will also be on display.

Alongside this classic, the Daniel Maghen Gallery will present works by Belgian illustrator Bernard Vrancken to mark the release of his graphic novel Nouvelle France (published by DM), written by Stephen Desberg. Following the sumptuous one-shot Les Enfants du ciel, Bernard Vrancken returns with a magnificent graphic novel entirely created in direct colors, blending India ink, colored inks, and gouache. A new graphic exploration, the book is literally carried by his stunning technique reminiscent of wash drawing, and enhanced by his palette of delicately cool hues. The exhibition will offer a chance to admire the most beautiful panels as well as previously unpublished illustrations created especially for the occasion.

Lire l'article
