A gifted artist in the tradition of the great realist masters, Montaigne demonstrates the full scope of his talent with dazzling black-and-white strips. With his 1629 series, all the ingredients are there: expressive artwork, immersive settings, cinematic panel layout—Montaigne draws us into this maritime adventure with passion and delivers exceptionally detailed artwork that serves the narrative, featuring original pages entirely rendered in India ink and breathtaking storm scenes.
To preserve your works on paper, we recommend that you never expose them to direct light, as UV rays can damage the mediums used. Paintings made with pastel or charcoal require special care to avoid rubbing. Works containing watercolor are particularly sensitive to light, unlike gouache and acrylic.
We advise you to display them away from windows, and to use frames made from pH-neutral conservation materials and “Museum” glass with anti-UV and anti-reflective treatment. If you prefer to keep your works unframed, we recommend storing them flat, in drawing cartons, with sheets of pH-neutral permanent paper in between. Keep them away from light and humidity.
Thimothée Montaigne studied at the Institut Saint-Luc in Tournai and specialized in narrative arts at the École Pivaut in Nantes. He was quickly spotted by Soleil Publishing, which commissioned him to illustrate the series Le Cinquième Evangile with Jean-Luc Istin. He then assisted Mathieu Lauffray with the color preparation for Long John Silver. Since then, he has also illustrated Malicorne and joined the Troisième Testament project alongside Alex Alice, handling the artwork for its prequel Julius starting with Volume 2. He then took over the artwork for Le Prince de la Nuit series starting with Volume 8. In 2022, he published 1629, or the Terrifying Story of the Jakarta Shipwreck Survivors with Glénat, written by Xavier Dorison—a story based on one of the bloodiest episodes in maritime history—and won the ACORAM Marine Bravo Zulu Comic Book Award in 2023. The album was a bestseller in bookstores, and the second volume was published in 2024. Complete biography.
