With Joe Bar Team—a cult humorous comic art series created in 1990 and selling over 6 million copies—Bar2 achieved worldwide success. The artist displays all his talent and passion for motorcycles in a style inspired by Franquin. He has produced an album featuring 70 original pages that, so far, he had never wished to put up for sale—until the auction dedicated to him by Maison Daniel Maghen Enchères, in 2023. His sense of humor and his talent as an artist earned the admiration of André Franquin himself.
Following the resounding success of the very first Joe Bar Team auction held in 2023, Daniel Maghen Enchères dedicated a new catalog to BAR2 in 2024, also achieving outstanding results. The artist thus confirmed his standing in the market for original comic art with the presentation of the latest major artworks in the series. The world record went to page 9 of volume 1 of Joe Bar Team, estimated at €5,000 and sold for €30,000 including tax.
To ensure that your pages are kept in good condition, we recommend that you never expose them to direct light, as UV rays can damage the media used to produce them. Although Indian ink is a perennial material, the paper support may change when exposed to UV light. Note that watercolor plates require special attention, as this medium is particularly sensitive to light. Pieces containing pastel or charcoal require special care to avoid rubbing.
We advise you to display them away from windows, and to use frames made of pH-neutral conservation materials and “Museum” glass with anti-UV and anti-reflective treatment. If you prefer to keep your works unframed, we recommend storing them flat, in drawing cartons, with sheets of pH-neutral permanent paper in between. Keep them away from light and humidity
Christian Debarre, known as Bar2, was born on April 18, 1960, in Meudon, and is the creator of Joe Bar Team. From his teenage years onward, he divided his time between two passions: drawing and motorcycles. In 1977, he made his debut in Plein Pot, a monthly motorcycle magazine featuring comic strips. After working as an illustrator at Moto Crampon, Bar2 joined Moto Journal, where he created the first Joe Bar Team comic strips, which were later published by Vents d’Ouest. Bar2 authored the first album in the series, entrusting the rest to Fane. He made his grand return for the long-awaited fifth and final volume, for which he wrote the script and created the artwork. In 2003, he took over Bar2 for Volume 5, for which he wrote the script and did the artwork.
