Through the story of two childhood friends scarred by war, Cosey creates an intimate travel narrative, both physical and psychological. Confronted with their pasts and regrets, the two protagonists gradually rediscover a taste for life. Cosey’s delicate linework is perfectly in harmony with his understated dialogues and meaningful silences, allowing the characters to reconnect at their own pace. As is often the case in Cosey’s work, the journey is above all spiritual, and Le Voyage en Italie (1988) is no exception. It offers readers the opportunity to embark as the fifth member of this crew, in this deeply human “road comic,” and to undertake their own personal introspection.
