Born in Fukagawa (Tokyo), Hiroyuki Ooshima began drawing at age seventeen, catching the attention of Shūkan Shōnen Jump. He juggled his studies with a career as an illustrator before launching his manga career in 2000 with Daisuke Ihara. Starting in 2005, his connections with French artists steered him toward Franco-Belgian comics, without abandoning his manga-style artwork—a hybrid approach he demonstrated in 2007 with the anthology Spirou, le guide de l'aventure à Tokyo (Spirou: The Adventure Guide to Tokyo). Based in Reims since 2008, he has worked as an artist, writer, and colorist for several French publishers, receiving the 2023 France Info Prize for Current Affairs Comics for Magnum Generation(s).
