Born in La Chaux-de-Fonds, Switzerland, Christophe Dubois explored various fields before entering the world of comic art. He showed an interest in the ‘Ninth Art’ from a very early age but chose to turn his hand to the applied arts, working as a graphic designer for ten years. He then returned to his first love in 2007: his collaboration with scriptwriter Nicolas Pona gave rise to Le Cycle d’Ostruce, a four-volume series published by Éditions du Lombard. Drawing on his experience as a graphic designer, he imbues his pages with an instinctive clarity. Capable of bringing complex buildings to life, he also demonstrates mastery in his use of large, coarse blocks of solid colour to achieve a truly unique effect, as stark as blood on the snow in Le Cycle d’Ostruce. In 2012, he followed this up with a two-part series entitled La Ballade de Magdalena, a colourful maritime adventure. In 2017, Christophe Dubois embarked on the TER series, based on a script by Rodolphe, published by Éditions Daniel Maghen. In this evocative and poetic three-volume science-fiction tale, the reader follows the development of the characters, including Mandor, as they gradually discover their strange planet. Following the success of TER, Rodolphe and Dubois continued Mandor’s adventures with a new series entitled TERRE, whose first volume was published in 2020 by Éditions Daniel Maghen. Once again partnering with Rodolphe, he created Rockabilly, a powerful one-shot set in the heart of rural America - a social commentary on the liberating power of Art and music.
Through light and texture, the artist transforms reality into a symbol: the guitar becomes a metaphor for rebellion, and the road a metaphor for possibility. (...) Visually sumptuous and narratively gripping, Rockabilly is a work haunted by the melancholy of great, thwarted destinies.
