The Daniel Maghen Gallery is proud to dedicate an exhibition to Alex Alice, focusing on his series Le Troisième Testament (The Third Testament, published by Glénat) and Siegfried (published by Dargaud), from February 27 to March 14, 2020 (extended until March 31).

Two cult comic books

With Le Troisième Testament, Alex Alice and Xavier Dorison created a cult series in the 1990s and 2000s. The duo reinvents the myth of the third testament through a dark and esoteric tale set in a Europe ruled by Christianity in the early 14th century. A vast mystical investigation superbly rendered by Alex Alice's artworks, whose realistic style and ultra-dynamic layout offer masterful battle scenes and breathtaking atmospheres. Around sixty original black-and-white pages, accompanied by their color versions, will be on display, as well as paintings inspired by the saga.

The exhibition will also showcase the author's second iconic comic album: Siegfried, the very first series for which he created both the artwork and the script. Inspired by the Norse myth of The Ring of the Nibelung, which inspired Wagner to write one of his most beautiful operas, Alex Alice recounts Siegfried's fabulous destiny in his quest to join the world of men. A bold, masterful, and epic storyline, enhanced by Alex Alice's majestic artwork and almost mystical coloring, makes this breathtaking trilogy one of the masterpieces of its genre. The magnificent cover paintings of the three albums in the series will be on display at the exhibition, along with a selection of 80 pages and their original coloring.
