The Daniel Maghen Gallery is proud to present a retrospective on contemporary visual artist and author Jean-Marc Rochette, from October 30 to November 23, 2024.
An artist at the height of his artistry
As a comic artist, painter, screenwriter, sculptor, and writer for 40 years, Jean-Marc Rochette has explored different genres and mediums, developing a wild, powerful, demanding, sincere, and raw art form.
Renowned for the Transperceneige (Snowpiercer) series, a major science fiction graphic novel created with Jacques Lob in the 1980s, which he continued with Extinctions and Terminus, and for his globally successful graphic novels about mountains — La Dernière Reine, Le Loup Ailefroide — Jean-Marc Rochette is now at the peak of his art.
The original India ink pages from the album La Dernière Reine, accompanied by their initial wash stages, will be showcased alongside pages from Ailefroide, Le Loup, and Transperceneige. The exhibition will also feature mountain watercolors, wash drawings, acrylics and oil paintings released and created especially for the exhibition, as well as a limited series of his bronze animal sculptures and their sketches.
The exhibition will thus summarize a lifetime of creativity by offering a comprehensive overview combining his two major graphic worlds, allowing visitors to discover the multiple expressions of his artwork and to question our relationship with nature and the wild world.
