Jean-Pierre Gibrat

Over the past 20 years, Jean-Pierre Gibrat has risen to the ranks of the great masters of the 9th Art. He is among the most sought-after artists on the market thanks to his historical narratives imbued with humanity, his sumptuous artwork, his exceptional mastery of color, and his female characters, whose charm and personality make them unforgettable. Today, Jean-Pierre Gibrat’s art is more vibrant than ever, focusing on the essential: light and pure emotion.

Jean-Pierre Gibrat is one of the most highly valued contemporary artists on the market. This is evidenced by the success of the “white gloves” auction organized by Daniel Maghen Enchères in 2021, which far surpassed his own world record with the original cover of Le Sursis (Volume 1, 1997), estimated at €50,000 and sold for €130,000 (including tax). In 2024, the artist was the subject of another “white-glove” sale with outstanding results for his cult series Mattéo and Le Vol du Corbeau, thus confirming his status as the most sought-after contemporary author on the market.

To preserve your works on paper, we recommend that you never expose them to direct light, as UV rays can damage the mediums used. Paintings made with pastel or charcoal require special care to avoid rubbing. Works containing watercolor are particularly sensitive to light, unlike gouache and acrylic.
We advise you to display them away from windows, and to use frames made from pH-neutral conservation materials and “Museum” glass with anti-UV and anti-reflective treatment. If you prefer to keep your works unframed, we recommend storing them flat, in drawing cartons, with sheets of pH-neutral permanent paper in between. Keep them away from light and humidity.

A French author and illustrator born in 1954 in Paris, Jean-Pierre Gibrat is one of today’s greatest contemporary artists. He began his career in comic art in the late 1970s with Goudard, based on texts by Jackie Berroyer. After various collaborations, he established himself as a complete creator in the historical genre with Le Sursis (1997–1999), a massive hit for the prestigious Aire Libre collection. He followed this with Le Vol du Corbeau (2002–2005), acclaimed for its artwork and honored at the Angoulême International Comics Festival in 2006. In 2008, he launched a new series with Mattéo at Futuropolis, confirming the maturity of his style, which had become freer and more luminous. A multiple award winner, he received the Grand Prix at the Blois Festival in 2010 for his entire body of work. Éditions Daniel Maghen dedicated an art book to him titled L’Hiver en été, featuring artworks spanning his twenty-year career and an in-depth interview conducted by his friend Rebecca Manzoni.
